A message from Specialdocs CEO Terry Bauer on Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

Our thoughts and prayers are with our Houston-area Special Docs, their patients and the entire community as they restore and rebuild after Hurricane Harvey. While the storm continues to take a terrible toll on Texas, all of us at Specialdocs are seeking ways to help, now, and during what is predicted to be a long, painful recovery period. We’ve identified two organizations, described below, as doing excellent work in the community, and encourage all who are interested to help make a difference with an online contribution. As a company, we are privileged to start the process with a donation to each of these non-profits.

Americares, the world’s leading nonprofit provider of donated medicine and medical supplies, delivering over $500 million annually in innovative health programs and quality medical aid to more than 90 countries and all 50 U.S. states for nearly 40 years, and earned the highest 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for excellence in financial health, accountability & transparency. Americares has a long history of responding to severe storms in the United States including Hurricane Ike in 2008 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Americares has been working with its network of local health centers, free clinics and response partners in Texas before Harvey made landfall, and meeting requests for water, medications and medical supplies with emergency deliveries ever since. Donations will go toward shipments of first aid supplies, insulin for diabetic patients, tetanus vaccine, asthma and blood pressure medications, walkers, wheelchairs, bottled water and other vital necessities.

The Houston Food Bank, also rated as a 4-star nonprofit by Charity Navigator, for its long history of nourishing the hungry in the community. The organization is urgently requesting donations of money to provide food and supplies in the short term and for many months to come to residents in southeast Texas as they struggle to rebuild their lives. As they eloquently say: “We’re in it for the long haul.” Click here to make a direct donation to the Food Bank:

I am confident that your contributions will be used thoughtfully and judiciously for Houston relief efforts…and that your generosity will be most appreciated.

Sincerely,
