Healthy Eating in the Medical Spotlight: It’s National Nutrition Month!

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ― Hippocrates

You could say it started with the father of medicine. The importance of a healthy diet has been emphasized for centuries and is even more relevant today. Consider this statistic from the CDC: Seven out of 10 deaths among Americans each year are from chronic diseases, such as cancer and heart disease. Inevitable? No, says the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which has underscored the link between healthy eating and overall wellness for decades, particularly during National Nutrition Month each March. According to the Academy: “Many of these deaths and risk factors are preventable, and food choices have a big impact on your health, even if you have other risk factors.”

A focus on healthy lifestyle choices is integral to the proactive wellness emphasized in concierge medicine. Specialdocs salutes National Nutrition Month for placing the importance of healthy eating in the spotlight…and hopes to keep it there year ‘round.
