It’s American Heart Month! Learn Why More Cardiologists are at the Heart of Concierge Medicine

This February the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women have teamed up to raise awareness for heart disease during American Heart Month. According to the observance’s official webpage, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of both men and women. Despite this grim statistic, there is hope: 80 percent of these deaths are preventable, and enormous progress is being made. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control report a 30% decrease in death rates in the last decade. One of the key reasons is patients’ increased awareness of their risk factors and action steps needed for healthier living – a result of ongoing education by dedicated physicians nationwide.

Cardiologists who practice in the concierge medicine model are particularly well positioned to explore and explain preventive measures with their patients, and develop wellness plans appropriate for their lifestyles. As cardiologist John R. Levinson, MD, PhD, founder of New England’s first concierge medical practice since 2001, AllCare Medical, LLC, in Boston, told Specialdocs: “Those specialties where patients have a longitudinal relationship with their doctor to work on chronic problems are an ideal fit for the concierge model.  If you’re the kind of cardiologist who helps patients work on chronic valve disease, coronary disease, or other areas of preventive cardiology, a concierge practice vastly improves your ability to provide the very best care for each and every patient.”
