Medicare Bill Passes Congress

Last month, President Barack Obama signed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, permanently repealing the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula for Medicare physician payment and instituting a 0.5-percent payment update each year through 2019. The bill also establishes a new merit-based incentive payment system in which Medicare will pay physicians based on their performance, rewarding them for higher-quality work rather than for how many patients they see.
