Over the past ten years of transitioning traditional medical practices to the concierge or personalized care model, Specialdocs developed a few basic criteria which consistently assist us in determining whether a prospective physician could be a viable candidate to become one of our “Special Docs.” One key factor that has changed rather dramatically over time is geographic location.

Ten years ago, concierge medicine practices were most likely to succeed in larger urban and more affluent suburban communities.  Initially, the concierge movement was driven by well established, higher profile physicians who wanted to take back control of their practices, realized they were seeing too many patients in too little time, and discovered a way to take “better care” of their patients…attaching what felt at the time like a rather “upscale” price tag.   We’ve come a long way!
