What We’re Reading: American Medical Association’s Perspective on the New Medicare Payment System

American Medical Association President Andrew W. Gurman, MD, provided a summary of the newly created Medicare payment system, the Quality Payment Program (QPP), and highlighted his  organization’s recommendations in an AMA article titled Physician voice shapes Medicare pay reform final rule. Calling it “a monumental change to the practice of medicine,” Dr. Gurman noted that feedback from physicians and healthcare organizations was adequately reflected in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ final rule on MACRA.  Several elements were revised to allow more time for physicians to comply with the new requirement, including an increase in the low-volume threshold and further flexibility for non-patient facing physicians and those practicing in a small, rural or health professional shortage area.

Physicians, do you agree with these revisions or do you have more suggestions? Will the revised rule make MACRA easier? Share your thoughts with us on LinkedInTwitter or Facebook. We want to hear from you!
