Physicians, your feedback about the proposed rule for new value-based payments under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) did not go unnoticed. Andy Slavitt, the Acting Administrator for CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), revealed that the agency is considering delaying the start date for the regulation.
Slavitt noted that lawmakers are particularly concerned with the effect MACRA may have on small and rural practices. Because many of these practices lack the technology, capital or staffing required to comply with MACRA, they could be forced to join larger practices or hospitals.
